Botswana Kaleidoscope

Botswana Kaleidoscope

We will explore the kaleidoscope of scenery from wide open savannah scrub land to the unique inland waterways of the Okavango Delta, plus one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world - The Victoria Falls!

Day 1
We will depart from New York or Washington DC for our South African Airways flight to South Africa.

Day 2
On arrival in Johannesburg we will make our way to our hotel. We will stay overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at The Saxon Boutique Hotel.

Day 3
We will depart from Johannesburg for our flight to Maun in Botswana. On arrival we will be transferred by light aircraft to the Okavango Delta. Chitabe Camp borders the famous Moremi Game Reserve, situated in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. From open floodplains, waterways, marshlands, dry acacia and mopane woodlands, riverine areas and open grasslands, this breathtaking mix of the Okavango Delta is as diverse as it is prolific. It is from here that sightings of elephant to impala and lion to wild dog may be seen as we venture across this diverse land during our day and night safaris in open 4x4 vehicles. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Chitabe Camp.

Day 4
Chitabe Camp has eight spacious Meru-style tents which are built on elevated wooden decks amongst the trees of the Okavango Delta. Each tent has twin beds, en-suite facilities and an indoor as well as an outdoor shower. The camp has a pool which allows us to cool off in the heat of the African sun. We will enjoy sumptuous meals from the thatched dining area or a sundowner drink in the pub and lounge area, all built on raised decks to provide superb views across the Okavango Delta floodplain. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Chitabe Camp.

Day 5
After breakfast we will depart on our light aircraft transfer to the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Little Vumbura Camp is situated on an island in a private concession in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Surrounded as it is by water and lying close to large rivers, water-based activities are the main focus at Little Vumbura Camp with mokoros traversing the floodplains under the guidance of experienced polers. Motor boats make their way up and down the permanent channels. Game viewing is consistently good all year round with lion, leopard, elephant, sable, and buffalo together with extensive plains game in this remote corner of the Okavango Delta. Game drives in open Land Rovers allow us to get close to animals in the savannah areas. Walks upon request around the islands are an opportunity for us to enjoy Africa from a different perspective. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Little Vumbura.

Day 6
Little Vumbura Camp is a beautiful six-roomed tented camp shaded by the canopy of an ancient Okavango Delta forest. Each tent is large and spacious and has en-suite facilities. A plunge pool and reading area overlook the floodplains and a star deck leads off the dining area where meals are enjoyed during our stay. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Little Vumbura.

Day 7
After breakfast we will depart on our light aircraft transfer to our camp in northern Botswana. Duma Tau is located in the private 125 000-hectare Linyanti Wildlife Reserve which borders the western boundary of Chobe National Park in northern Botswana. It is situated close to the source of the Savute Channel on one of the many lagoons within the Linyanti Swamp system, which makes game drives along the Savute one of the highlights of a stay here. The region is well-known for its elephant concentrations as they congregate along the waterways and lagoons during the dry winter months. General wildlife viewing is excellent year round including impala, wildebeest, red lechwe, Burchell's zebra, giraffe, Cape buffalo, chacma baboon, vervet monkey, and warthog. Predator sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyaena are good. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Duma Tau.

Day 8
The tents at Duma Tau are spacious, under thatch with canvas walls, en-suite bathroom facilities and an outside shower. There is a dining room, pub, lounge, swimming pool and a special guest bathroom with an incredible view. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Duma Tau.

Day 9
After breakfast we will be transferred by light aircraft to Kasane Airport. We will be met on arrival and transferred by road to our camp in Zambia. Toka Leya Camp lies on the banks of the great Zambezi River in the western sector of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, about 12km upstream from Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. From here it is the perfect base for us to enjoy a tour of the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, game drives within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park which offer sightings of game such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala and possibly rhino or the occasional predator; river cruises, fishing excursions and guided nature walks. Tours of Livingstone town and museum and visits to Mkuni Market and Simonga Village are all the perfect way to learn about the people and culture of this part of Zambia. There is a rich abundance of birdlife and we can enjoy it within the confines of the camp itself, on boat cruises and out on game drives. The Zambezi River offers some fishing opportunities and tiger fishing is an unforgettable challenge for avid fishermen, particularly during the warmer months (October - December). We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Toka Leya Camp.

Day 10
The twelve tent interiors boast cool wooden flooring, tasteful, uncluttered African decor in earthy tones, climate-control for a cool summer sanctuary, an expansive wooden deck where we will soak up the views of the Zambezi River, often to the sights and sounds of birds, elephant and grunting hippo. The camp's dining, lounge and bar areas offer ample space for relaxation and are complemented by an infinity pool, with meals served on the sundeck, the pool deck and dining room all overlooking the mighty Zambezi River. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Toka Leya Camp.

Day 11
After breakfast we will depart on our scheduled road transfer to Livingstone for our onward flight to Johannesburg and onwards connection to the USA.
