The Bachelor SA Getaway – Affordable Luxury

This package includes flights, a stay at the trendy Protea Hotel Fire & Ice, a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula, plus Lion Sands River Lodge and so much more!

Day 1
We will depart from New York for our South African Airways flight to South Africa.

Day 2
On arrival in Johannesburg we will connect onwards for our two hour flight on South African Airways to Cape Town. On arrival we will be met for our transfer to our hotel. We will stay overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice.

Day 3
After breakfast we will be met by our local English speaking driver-guide for our full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. We will depart from the hotel and flank the colder Atlantic Ocean en route to Hout Bay. Once a fishing community, now one of the most popular residential areas, the harbor still has a charm of days gone by. We will have the chance to join the M.V. "Circe" for a half hour cruise to "Seal Island" or if we aren't feeling so adventurous, we will visit the fish market at "Mariners Wharf". Our tour will continue over the famous Chapman's Peak drive – if open, with a 200 meter drop on one side and a 200 meter rise on the other, as we make our way south, following the Atlantic Ocean until we reach Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. Said to be the romantic meeting place of the two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian, Sir Francis Drake the Explorer once called it "the fairest Cape that we saw in the whole circumference of the Globe". And rightly so, it must be the highlight of any visit to the Mother City, if not South Africa. Our optional lunch stop will be at the Fish Hoek Galley. We will pass the naval base of Simonstown as we continue along the Indian Ocean, en route to see the Jackass penguin colony which has become well established at Boulders Beach near Simonstown. Our last stop of the day will be at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, home of some 500 species of Southern African fauna and flora. We will return to the hotel in the late afternoon, having seen some of the best that the Cape has to offer. We will stay overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice.

Day 4
We will depart on the thrill of all thrills, a trip to see the Great White! Seeing the greatest and one of the oldest animals on the planet is truly a unique, awe-inspiring and a humbling experience. Most people arrive with fear and trepidation and leave with admiration and a newfound respect for these majestic animals. We will experience the thrill of being underwater and surrounded by Great White Sharks! We will feel the exposure of free-diving while remaining safe inside the cage, or participate from the boat and see the Great White Shark in all its magnificence. These trips are weather dependent, last approximately four hours and our launch time will be confirmed well in advance of our trip. We will stay overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice.

Day 5
After breakfast, our local English-speaking driver-guide will meet us at the hotel for a tour of the Cape wine region. We will depart from the hotel and head north to Paarl. Our first stop is for our morning wine tasting at Nelsons Creek Estate. After a tour through their cellars, we will have a chance to sample some of their local wines as well as a cheese tasting. A brief city tour of Paarl follows, before we make our way to Franschhoek with a photo stop at the Groot Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela was released in 1990. This little village nestled amongst the mountains can easily be mistaken for a little Switzerland. After a short tour of the town, a second wine tasting will be enjoyed in Franschhoek followed by a lunch stop and a chance to savor some of the fresh trout for which Franschhoek is renowned. After lunch our tour will continue to the university town of Stellenbosch. It is easy to understand why Simon van der Stel decided to settle a village amongst the mountains. The backdrop of the Hottentots Holland Mountains, the white gabled Cape Dutch homesteads and the oak lined streets and lanes all blend in to give this place a charm that will not be quickly forgotten. Time permitting we will indulge in a third and final wine tasting. Then we will set off for our return to the Mother City. The rest of our afternoon is at our own leisure. We will stay overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice.

Day 6
After breakfast, we will be met for our transfer to the airport in Cape Town for our flight to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. We will be met upon arrival and transferred by road to our lodge situated in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Time permitting, we can partake in an afternoon safari in open game vehicles, or just relax and experience African hospitality at its finest. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Lion Sands River Lodge.

Day 7
We will enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives with experienced game rangers and trackers. Game drives are undertaken at the coolest times of the day to avoid the harsh African sun where we are sure to be enthralled in this prime game viewing area. The rest of our time will be spent relaxing at the lodge, perhaps by the pool or enjoying an afternoon siesta. Sumptuous meals are enjoyed during our stay which is sure to be a lifetime experience. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Lion Sands River Lodge.

Day 8
We will meet at sunrise at the elephant stables to wake the sleepy souls and prepare them for the day. We will help brush down the elephants and watch their morning exercises. Warm refreshments and a snack will prepare us for a typical elephant ramble; meandering down shady paths, enjoying regular stops for elephant breakfast feasting. When our legs need a rest, we will relax on top of one of the elephant and experience the unique relationship the Elephant Handlers enjoy with the elephant. Next, we will return to the lodge in time for another thrilling safari experience. We will stay overnight on a fully inclusive basis at Lion Sands River Lodge.

Day 9
After one last opportunity to track some elusive animal species, we will be transferred to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for our flight to Johannesburg and onward connection to the United States.

Day 10
We will arrive in the United States at New York (JFK) airport.
